About the job
Join a pioneering team responsible for developing custom silicon solutions to shape the future for Google products distributed directly to consumers. You will contribute to the improvement process to create products loved by millions of people worldwide. Your expertise will help shape the next generation of hardware experience, delivering superior performance, efficiency and integration capabilities. In your role as Engineer, Product Quality, you will lead the entire product quality deployment process across internal teams and contract manufacturers/suppliers. You will bridge the quality process, from basic visual inspection to advanced design focused on quality and manufacturability by leveraging high-fidelity data to ensure customer satisfaction.
In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional departments, including product management, design, systems engineering, operations and supply chain to build proactive and preventive thinking, drive a culture of continuous improvement and aim for predictable manufacturing scale-up and product launches without issues.
Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it useful and accessible globally. Our Devices and Services team combines the best of Google's AI, software and hardware to deliver helpful experiences across all aspects for users. We research, design and develop new technologies and hardware so users can interact with computing technology faster, more powerfully and more seamlessly. The Devices and Services team is making people's lives better through technology, whether by finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, improving product design or upgrading how we interact.
Responsibilities
- Lead Product Quality Plans (PQP) to shift focus from basic visual inspection to "data-driven design for quality and manufacturability assurance", ensuring appropriate quality inspection scope and detection capability.
- Collaborate with engineering teams during New Product Introduction (NPI) phase to validate design intent (Tolerance Analysis), ensure scalability and optimize specifications using high-fidelity data.
- Use Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods to ensure that manufacturing processes remain stable and capable of excellence (CpK >1.33).
- Enhance detection capability at the factory by deploying high-fidelity measurement tools and functions. Drive rapid root cause analysis process using advanced techniques such as X-ray imaging and CT scanning.
- Protect the final assembly line by strictly managing the Incoming Quality Control (IQC) process. Lead cosmetic quality by setting clear specifications, managing limit samples and transitioning to objective, automated measurements.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience in electronic manufacturing, particularly in watches and earbuds or other consumer electronics/wearable devices.
- 5 years of experience in product quality development and deployment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in Applied Chemical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience preventing quality degradation issues from the early manufacturing stage and deploying early error detection strategies in operations, such as periodic reliability testing.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams to solve problems using practical methods such as Quality Metrics, Design of Experiments (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodology.
- Proficiency in demonstrating process capability (CpK > 1.33), design margin analysis and implementation of high-fidelity measurement systems.
- Ability to communicate fluently in Mandarin Chinese to liaise with relevant parties.
